Origin
The bright light and warmth of the African sun, combined with the altitude around Mount Kenya, contribute to the opulence and elegance of this rose.
It is no coincidence that this specially developed rose is called Highness. It is grown on a Fairtrade certified farm at 2,865 metres above sea level, the highest farm in Kenya. The ideal production conditions there ensure that 'Highness' roses reach a stem length of up to 90 centimetres and are characterised by their stunning head size and long vase life.
The beauty and outstanding quality of the 'Highness' rose make it something very special. Try this unique variety for yourself - available exclusively from selected retailers!
The Highness Fairtrade rose was bred by Dutch breeder De Ruiter after many years of intensive selection. It is grown on two Fairtrade certified farms in Kenya, which are involved in a wide range of social and environmental projects: Bellissima and Siraji. Both are located on Mt. Kenya at around 2,400 metres above sea level - the altitude makes for particularly colourful flowers.
Bellissima
The Bellissima farm covers an area of 30 hectares. Large-headed roses, known as 'tea hybrids', are grown here. Highness, with 13 hectares, accounts for the largest proportion of production. The farm has been Fairtrade certified since December 2018. One of the projects supported by the Fairtrade premium is the construction of new classrooms at a nearby school. Other projects are in the pipeline.
Siraji
The Siraji farm has a total area of 25 hectares. Of this, 3 hectares are used to grow Highness. It has been Fairtrade certified since its inception. The Fairtrade premium has already been used for a number of projects, including equipping a nearby hospital with an X-ray unit and providing a hot meal every day for around 500 schoolchildren.
